The Millennium: True Peace Is Not the Achievement of Human Politics, but the Personal Reign of Jesus Christ
Only after the Antichrist is destroyed, Satan is bound, and the rebellious armies of the nations are judged does the true Millennium begin. Revelation 20:1–6 plainly declares that Jesus Christ shall reign for a thousand years. This is not symbolic language, but God’s actual ordering of world history. To spiritualize or allegorize it away is to empty the Bible’s final promise concerning earthly kingship of its real substance.
The Millennium teaches one decisive truth: true peace has never been the achievement of human political technique, but the result of the personal reign of the Savior. This means that every peace project constructed apart from Jesus Christ will eventually become false peace. Only under the reign of Christ will righteousness, truth, order, and worship be fully united for the first time. All humanity’s attempts to establish lasting peace through diplomacy, technology, religious fusion, and unified world government will finally be exposed as poor imitations of the kingdom of Heaven. For what the earth truly requires is not a more advanced form of human rule, but divine rule; not a more perfect system of world engineering, but the coming of the kingship of Jesus Christ.
The Millennium, therefore, is not a hymn to humanity’s confidence in civilization, but the judgment upon humanity’s dream of self-rule. It proclaims that the earth does not ultimately belong to the nations, to empires, to religious alliances, or to technological oligarchs. The earth belongs, in the end, to Jesus Christ.
